More Easter weekend

Mick added a rail to the side of our summer deck on Saturday allowing the dogs full access without my worrying they are going to launch themselves off and head over to disrupt the chickens.  It has become the Chicken Observation Area for the dogs and will be a great hang out place this summer.

Canadian eh?

No doubt aboot it, we are Canadian

Easter arrivals

Rabbits Fern & Bramble delivered their litters on Good Friday, Fern's litter consists of six bunnies, while Bramble delivered a small litter of three. Below are a couple of videos of the new rabbit kits at one day of age. Although many believe a rabbit will abandon it's litter if they are handled, this is not the case, not even with wild rabbits, if you come across a nest, leave it alone, it may seem abandoned, but mom will be hiding nearby. Unlike dogs, rabbits only visit their nest to nurse the young once or twice a day, causing concern among people that the mom isn't coming back.

Easter Eggs!

My ladies are laying more eggs then ever, no doubt we will be having eggs this Easter.

I also have our first two rabbit litters of 2013 due any day.  Rabbits can deliver as early as day 28 (which is today) to as late as days 30-32.  When I was out to feed and water this morning the two mommas-to-be were busy filling their nest boxes with hay and soft downy fur that they pull from their tummies.
A very festive Easter here.

Spring is here!

Even though we had more snow fall yesterday it's still here, the first day of Spring.

Hexe's pups are almost 8 weeks old, they celebrated the first day of Spring by joyfully leaping through, eating and digging in the white stuff.  You can't stop puppy fun no matter what is on the ground.

Happy first day of Spring 2013!!

Don't shear that dog yet!

With the pups I am behind in my Spring clipping of a couple of my older dogs.  Hope (currently known as Woolly bully) is one of them.  Good thing too, looks like we are about to get hit by more snow overnight....when will this winter end??

Happy St Patricks Day

Happy Birthday to my Beamish, born this day 4 years ago.
Time does pass quickly my little Leprechaun!

Internet Lies

It's true, you cannot believe everything you read on the Internet.  For instance, most people know that the fresher the egg, the more difficult it is to remove the shell when boiled without destroying the egg inside.  You see, when an egg is laid there is a very small air pocket inside, on the large side of the egg.  As the egg ages, outside air is absorbed through the shell enlarging that area, making it much easier to remove the shell.
However!!! Stop the press  this is the secret that everyone with chickens has been sharing on the Internet for perfect, easy peel, fresh eggs.  You bake them in the oven, then plunge into icy water.  Sounds simple.

Here is a picture of the perfectly peeled beauty from the Internet

Look at the gorgeous, smooth, glossy perfectly peeled egg.  Hmmmm.....

Do you think that is what I have sitting in a bowl in my fridge right now?

Seriously, would I be posting this if it did?

This is what my eggs look like, ack!  Sigh...why do I fall for these things????

Yep, pretty sad isn't it?

All is not loss, the dogs are gonna love those.

Photos, blogs and Facebook

I post photos of my dogs on this blog, as well, many go on my Facebook page, be sure to check out FaceBook some time to see shots that don't always appear here, or, my Puppy Nursery Blog which is full of the cutest schnauzer puppy photos :-)  You don't have to be a Facebook member to view my Dinsdale page, only if you want to leave a comment.
Often on the blog I will get artistic with a photo, change it up a wee bit, like this one of Cyrus taken this morning.  I ran a couple of different Photoshop processors on it to come up with this desaturated photo of Cyrus enjoying a good chew.
